The next question is: WHY not?
Well that’s a simple one to figure out. It’s the ‘Commission-Only’ business model, the self-serving ‘Sales Culture’ that’s responsible for both the behaviour that robs your trust, and the unreasonably high fees.
But what really baffles me, the thing I can’t get my head around, is why you (as consumers) keep putting up with it?
Why on earth do you keep on supporting an industry that, in your view, can’t be trusted to act in your best interests AND charges you far too much for the privilege?
It just doesn’t make sense – so please help me understand.
Is it because you don’t realise you have a choice? Do you simply not know that you are in control of your home sale? That you can make a difference to how much profit you keep in your pocket?
Is it just apathy – do you simply not care if you’re getting the best advice? Do you not care that you’re paying way too much for the service of selling your home?
Or even worse, is it ’Victim Mentality’? Do you shrug your shoulders and think… “That’s just the way it is, I can’t do anything about it”…and like sheep follow the flock to the slaughter? Is that it? Surely not?
Come on, we live in an age where knowledge is at your fingertips. An age where people the world over are standing up to injustices. Where the masses are saying ‘enough is enough’. Where you expect everybody else you deal with to be fair and transparent. You expect even most basic service providers to at least itemise their bill, to justify their costs.
Yet when it comes to real estate agents, you keep on engaging them – on their terms. You keep on paying them a percentage of your properties value, and for what exactly? Why do they deserve a slice of your equity? Did they add any value to you?
Here’s the thing.
YOU (home sellers) are actually in control of the real estate industry.
You are the paying client. You are the one person every real estate agent on the planet needs. Without your property on their books they’re as useless as a bike without wheels. If you all stopped supporting the real estate industry in it’s current form, it would collapse within a matter of months. It would be forced to change it’s ways or go the way of the Dinosaurs.
The future of the real estate industry is in your hands.
You can make it the way you want it to be. You can make it better for yourself your children and future generations… or you can keep accepting how it is now. It’s up to you.
Stand up. Take the control back. Demand change. Demand an industry that can be trusted, that really is working for you. Demand fees that reflect the actual amount of work involved in servicing just you. Demand an itemised bill. Refuse to give away the equity in your home. Keep more of the profit from your sale for yourself.
